JetBlue Partners with Lufthansa, increases reach to Europe for…

JetBlue Airways and Lufthansa officially partnered yesterday, resulting in an expanded reach for both carriers.

The flights will be available out of the New York and Boston airports, and will give JetBlue customers new access to Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

“Today’s a great day for JetBlue customers as we begin to offer connections to an unbelievable array of worldwide destinations with Lufthansa,” Dave Barger, JetBlue’s President and CEO, said in an official press release. “Lufthansa’s partnership with JetBlue is a significant endorsement of our airline’s brand, our people, and our award-winning service.”

The flights, which will be operated via a codeshare agreement, will give JetBlue customers the ability to seamlessly transfer between domestic JetBlue flights and transatlantic schedules operated by Lufthansa. The new worldwide connections will be available on JetBlue direct from Boston and New York, and will provide daily flights to popular destinations such as Barcelona, Paris, Rome, and Dubai.

Customers will also be able to travel via connecting flights from 12 cities that JetBlue currently serves—including Austin, Fort Lauderdale, New Orleans, and Tampa—and connect to more than 200 Lufthansa destinations in nearly 80 countries.

Jetblue, the leading airline at both JFK and Boston’s Logan International, and Lufthansa, Europe’s premiere airline, intend to continue their collaboration, adding more JetBlue destinations to the agreement in 2010.

Tickets for codeshare flights, which run as low as $250 for a one-way flight from JFK to Barcelona and $299 one-way from Boston to London, can be purchased online through either carrier’s website. Travelers booking flights by November 22nd can take advantage of a $75 savings by downloading a special promotion code celebrating the partnership here.
